Directors & Officers Insurance for High Net Worth individuals
Do you like to give back to your community?
One way many of our clients do this is by volunteering to sit on different boards of directors. Most non-profits will carry Directors & Officers coverage, but the limits provided may not meet the needs of our clientele. The good news is, we have insurance carriers that are able to add Directors & Officers coverage to their personal umbrella policies.
What is Directors & Officers Insurance?
D&O Insurance is a liability policy written to cover the directors and officers of a for-profit or not-for-profit business. The purpose of this coverage is to cover monetary damages for reimbursement for losses or advancement of defense cost in the event the insured suffers a loss as a result of legal action.
So, what does this mean for me? How do I give back but make sure I’m protected?
In the unfortunate event that a lawsuit depleted the primary layer of coverage, the personal assets of the board members may be at risk. Many of our high-end insurance carriers such as AIG, Chubb, Pure and Cincinnati will be able to provide D&O coverage that sits above the organizations base limits. Simply put, if the base D&O limits that the non-profit provide are depleted due to a large claim, you as an individual can purchase excess D&O coverage through your umbrella. Usually you can buy up to $10M in coverage.
